The models tested are both open and closed models available from a variety of providers from around the world. They go into detail using analysis of word choice, grammar, structure, and more. When choosing AI, different models between each post or page can offer a variety that avoids the same writing style for all content.


Prompt away the em dash problem of tropes

Even with a different writing style, AI still has the problem of tropes in writing. The commonly repeated phrases and infamous use of em dash are two of the most noticeable. You can use the tropes lists such as this one to help AI avoid common problems that pollute the writing. Start with an existing paragraph about the topic, we can expand on it using various AI models until we’re happy with the results. The research from Rival shows that many low cost models write very similarly to very expensive models. As we see from Rival, GPT model families write much the same. GPT 5 Pro and GPT 5 Mini have a very similar writing style, but GPT 5 Mini is 40x cheaper.

A human written sample helps provide the lower cost AI an example of the writing style you are looking to expand on. You can also try prompt such as ‘Write at a # grade reading level’ or with a ‘research’ style. These help add variety to the writing without falling into a pattern paragraph after paragraph.
